If you want to actively shape the future, you have to look ahead, identify trends, then put them into action. Together with customers, BASF is working on innovative and environmentally - sound ideas for use in automotive engineering. An important factor here is to combine cost-effectiveness with environmental protection, comfort with safety, design with aesthetics. BASF innovations are essential for our partners in the automotive industry and consequently the key to a successful future together.
One of the most important of these innovations is the Paintless Film Molding process - or PFM system for short - developed by BASF and for which the Association of German Engineers (VDI) awarded BASF and its partners the Plastics Innovation Prize in 2004. PFM-Xtruform is the name under which BASF markets high-quality plastic films which the supplier industry can process into Class-A car body parts without the need for additional finishing. The film solution doesn’t just look identical to wet-painted steel plate; it is also far lighter in weight. A factor which benefits both drivers and the environment.
This is just one of many forward-looking system solutions offered by BASF. BASF additives make driving more fun by keeping engine intake systems clean. They optimise acceleration, reduce fuel consumption and emissions and extend the life of the engine.
BASF paints protect vehicles, adding colour and gloss. Motor manufacturers value our ability to develop intelligent solutions and system technologies, to optimise processes and, in the case of paint, to ensure efficient reliable process flow around the clock.
