The increase in cars is putting a strain on the environment. We have recognized the need for environmentally compatible solutions and are seizing the opportunities offered by the markets of the future - with catalysts, fuel additives and ultra light plastics, which lower fuel consumption and reduce emissions. With modern products and solutions for the automotive industry, we are seizing business opportunities and at the same time protecting the environment. Our technologies have already convinced a large number of automobile manufacturers: Overall, products for the automotive industry account for around 10% of BASF Group's total sales.

New catalysts for clean diesel vehicles: Today's diesel engines are more than a match for gasoline engines. In terms of design a diesel is much more efficient: It uses less fuel and emits less CO₂. To purify diesel exhaust fumes is a challenge and only possible because manufacturers of catalytic converters like BASF Catalysts are continually improving their exhaust gas aftertreatment systems.
