At its Annual Assembly at the end of April, the "Mexican National Association of the Chemical Industry" (ANIQ) honored BASF's production site in Altamira with the Award: "Responsible Care, The commitment of the Chemical Industry" for its outstanding achievements in the completion of the Responsible Care program. On behalf of Michel Mertens, President of BASF in Mexiko, Central America and the Caribbean, the Director for Operations of BASF Mexicana, Leopoldo Morales, received the honor from Mr. Pedro Fernandez, President of ANIQ

The requirements that had to be fulfilled by the participants, were the submission of auto evaluations over the last 3 years, an at least at 95% progress in the completion of the Responsible Care program, the submission of respective indicators and a successful verification by ANIQ.

In its introduction, the President of the ANIQ praised the three companies that received the award as "examples to be followed by the whole industry". Michel Mertens, President of BASF in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, congratulated the team in Altamira for this Award: "This recognition is proof that BASF and our team in Altamira are not only paying lip service to BASF's strategic guideline "Ensuring Sustainable Development". In Altamira, we have worked very hard over the last years for the implementation of essential elements of "Sustainable Development" and we are very proud to be not only an example for the region of Altamira, but for the whole Mexican Chemical industry.
