The Sustainability team of BASF Pakistan refurbished science laboratories for 1,000 children near a BASF production site.

The Directorate of Workers' Education has set up four standard Workers' Model Schools in Pakistan; one of them is situated near the BASF production site at Landhi, Karachi. 1,000 workers' children attend this school paying only a nominal fee.
In April 2007, Dr. Tilman Krauch, President Asia Pacific visited the school and had a look at the classes. Academics are of a good standard; the school has an assembly hall and a well-stocked computer classroom. Unfortunately laboratories for Chemistry, Physics and Biology were not according to standard and required refurbishing. The Sustainability team took care of the required actions: Water and sewerage lines were installed, quality lab equipment was purchased, teachers training manuals developed and lab teachers and assistants trained. The equipment included electronic microscopes, chemicals, micrometers, lab glassware etc.
In March 2008, the local sustainability team handed over the well set science laboratories to the school management. Now children perform the experiments with ease and renewed interest in science.
