BASF Pakistan joins Transparency International
BASF Pakistan has become a member of Transparency International Pakistan Chapter. With this step, BASF Pakistan has become the first company in the corporate sector in the country to sign such a charter, voluntarily agreeing to abide by the set ethical standards at national level. The signing ceremony was held at BASF Head Office on 18th May 2004 with all employees and a delegation from Transparency International participating.
BASF Pakistan approached Transparency International in Pakistan to follow the example of BASF AG, which joined Transparency International as a corporate member in September 2003. Discussions and verifications of statements continued for over 2 months. A delegation from Transparency International visited the BASF Pakistan Factory to see the manufacturing and quality standards, the Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant and BASF Pakistan’s sustainable growth philosophy in action. After being fully satisfied that BASF Pakistan fulfils the eligibility criteria Transparency International agreed to enter into an agreement with the company to jointly combat bribery and corruption in Pakistan.
Transparency International Pakistan Chapter has been very active for the past 2 ½ years. It is a part of Transparency International, which was established in 1993 in Berlin on the initiative of Dr. Peter Eigen. Worldwide, the independent, non-party organization now has national chapters in more than 90 countries. Transparency International aims to raise awareness for the consequences of corruption and means of combating it. The non-profit organization forms a global network for exchanging knowledge and experience about successful strategies for fighting corruption.
