Eco-efficiency competence center inaugurated in Latin America |

The Espaço ÉCO Foundation, located near BASF's site in São Bernardo do Campo (Brazil), was opened on June 22, 2005. It is located in a nature reserve of approximately 290,000 m2, which was donated by BASF. The area is recognized as a part of the Brazilian biosphere reserve by UNESCO. BASF initiated the foundation in cooperation with GTZ (German governmental agency for international cooperation). Other partners in this inter-institutional partnership include São Bernardo do Campo's City Hall, SENAI (Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial) and SESI (Serviço Social da Indústria).

Besides donating the land, BASF will invest R$ 2 million (which equals 50% of the total investment) in the consolidation of this project. Initiating alliances with its partners is essential for the success of the Espaço ECO Foundation. Each partner contributes with its particular strengths to the project.
