European Chemicals Policy

REACH is an important and necessary reform of European chemicals legislation. BASF actively supports the European Commission and other stakeholders in fashioning a regulation that can be implemented.

Visual European chemicals policy

It is the objective of REACH to further enhance the protection of the environment and health. BASF supports these goals without reservations. In order that REACH can achieve its ambitious goals, it must be feasible for all parties involved: for the manufacturers, importers, processors and downstream users of chemical substances and products - and also for the European and national authorities.

As a manufacturer of chemicals, BASF will have the substances of its product portfolio authorized as laid down by REACH and submit the documentation required for this to the central European Chemicals Agency. With the help of its customers, BASF will identify the proper substance applications and demonstrate that handling them is safe. This is already the practise at BASF.

In the BASF Group, the preparations for REACH have been going on for about three years. An increasingly important task for the BASF experts will be to support customers in implementing REACH. BASF offers its customers individually tailor-made packages of consultation and service.

Now that the text of the legislation has been adopted, it is very important that the directives for the implementation are also fashioned in such a way that REACH is practicable for all those concerned. For this purpose, BASF’s experts are contributing their specialized knowledge, for example in connection with the work of the "REACH Implementation Projects" (RIPs) of the European Commission.

You will find further information on the implementation of REACH here.
