Chances of biotechnology

Photo: Plant biotechnology at BASF
Biotechnology enables food products and valuable ingredients to be produced in ways which save resources. Both plant biotechnology and biocatalysis contribute to a sustainable economy and offer enormous opportunities in terms of economic growth and jobs. We want to utilize their manifold possibilities. In this process, we carefully weigh up opportunities and risks and make safety our top priority. Social acceptance of biotechnology is an important requirement for BASF. This is why constant dialog with the general public is a matter of course for us. We see ourselves as part of society and take concerns that have been expressed as well as possible risks extremely seriously. This is why we participate actively in public debate. BASF acts in accordance with ethical principles laid down by EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries.
